We’re delighted to announce that the 2021 Spotlight Virtual Issue is now online.
Each year, the Journal of Applied Ecology Editors select a collection of articles from the previous publication volume for a Spotlight Virtual Issue to showcase important new research from the Global South. The articles within the Virtual Issue are free to read for the year so that they can be accessed by all ecologists, irrespective of their location or affiliation.
The 14 articles in this years’ collection are by researchers based in six countries – China, South Africa, Brazil, Thailand, India and Chile. The topics covered within are broad – ranging from movement ecology to invasion ecology and global change ecology to nature-based solutions (NbS) – yet what links them all is their novelty, their global relevance, and the clear applications each study has to the management of biological resources.
This Virtual Issue issue is part of the Journal’s wider efforts to support a more diverse community of applied ecologists – more information on this and our other initiatives can be found in the Editorial ‘How international journals can support ecology from the Global South’.
