The Journal of Applied Ecology Editorial board is looking for new Associate Editor mentees

If you are less than five years post-PhD and looking to develop your editorial experience alongside a revered board of Senior Editors, why not apply for the Journal of Applied Ecology Associate Editor mentoring opportunity?

Each year the board welcomes new mentee Associate Editors with little or no editorial experience to take up this training post and gain experience of working on a relevant and well-respected journal. This two-year position includes:

  • An appointed Senior Editor to provide guidance, support and a sounding board for questions and ideas
  • In-house support from the Editorial office – we take care of the routine work so you can focus on the science
  • Experience in the peer review process for a high-impact journal, including assessing content, selecting reviewers and making recommendations to Senior Editors
  • The opportunity to share your ideas for future journal initiatives

How to apply:

Please send your CV or link to your webpage, by Monday 31st July to admin@journalofappliedecology.org, including a list of 3–8 of your recently published papers along with a short statement outlining your views and experiences of publishing, areas of expertise, and stating which Senior Editor would be most appropriate for your research area.

Here’s what some previous mentees have said about the post:

‘Understanding the editorial process makes me a better reviewer, editor and author. It will definitely help me to be much clearer as an author, to firmly root my decisions as an editor, and to know how to help the editor making the decision’
– José Alves, Senior Research Associate with the Universities of Aveiro and Iceland

‘The Journal’s mentoring scheme offered me the opportunity to learn more about how an international journal can contribute to putting ecology into practice’
– Lander Baeten, Professor of Ecology and Conservation in the Department of Forest & Water Management at Ghent University, Belgium

‘The mentoring role has not only provided me with valuable experience in an official editorial role for a high impact journal, it has also enabled me to learn important details about submission handling and the editorial process, to engage with the interface of new and exciting research and to better understand the decision-making process’
– Romina Rader, Lecturer in Community Ecology at the University of New England in Armidale, Australia

More information about this great training opportunity is available on our website.

We look forward to receiving your applications!
